How to join

When you join the Association of Mental Health First Aiders, you’re part of the largest community of its kind.

There are three ways to join the Association of Mental Health First Aiders:

  1. If you are already an MHFA England Mental Health First Aider with an active MHFAider or Youth MHFAider certificate (dated within the last 3 three years) you will have received an email with instructions on how to join the Association of Mental Health First Aiders for free. In case you have missed your email, please contact [email protected] and we will be able to send you a new invite link. 

    All existing Youth MHFAiders will receive an email in January 2025 inviting them to the Association of Mental Health First Aiders. Follow the link in the email to join the Association.
  2. If you would like to become a Mental Health First Aider or a Youth MHFAider and therefore join the Association of Mental Health First Aiders, you will need to attend a Mental Health First Aid course or a Youth Mental Health First Aid course. Once you have attended the course you will automatically be invited to join the Association via an email which provides instructions on how to join for free. You can book onto an MHFA course here.
  3. If you trained as a Mental Health First Aider through another training provider (not MHFA England) and have a Level 3 qualification in Mental Health First Aid you may be eligible to join by taking our MHFA Refresher course. You can reserve a place on our MHFA Refresher course and you will need to provide your Mental Health First aid qualification certificate to your Instructor.

    We are currently developing a Youth MHFA Refresher. This new course will refresh the skills of Youth MHFAiders every three years, so they can continue to carry out their role with confidence, skill and care, and retain their membership of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders.The new course will launch in summer 2025. More information will be available soon.

Membership Renewal:
When your Mental Health First Aid certificate or your Youth Mental Health First Aid certificate expires so does your membership. To renew your membership of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders you will need to attend an MHFA Refresher course or a Youth MHFA Refresher course (available from summer 2025) which will provide you with a new MHFA certificate and extend your membership, for free, for a further three years. Talk to your workplace wellbeing lead and/or original MHFA Instructor to arrange and book onto a course.
